Scazzamurrieddhri

Scazzamurieddhri are small furry fairies, dressed with a red cap and wooden clogs—some of the most nasty and intrusive creatures of Salentinian folklore. In the past, it was believed that these creatures would enter Castrignano stables and braid the tails of horses and donkeys.

Today, they are said to live in the town’s baronial castle inside a terracotta pot, which shows signs of life whenever a visitor passes by.
